The moment is almost here. You found the woman. You picked the ring. You know that she’s the one. Only now you have to plan out the marriage proposal. Let this quick article give you some solid advice on how to make your proposal perfect.
Be yourself. Your almost-fiancé knows you well enough to realize that something is up. In today’s Internet-saturated world, it’s easy to feel like you have to get everything just right and have a perfectly unique and YouTube-worthy proposal, but the truth is she is choosing you, not the proposal.
There is no real pressure to get it perfect. So long as you say those four little words (or something close to it) – Will you marry me? – the rest is just details. Prepare a proposal that represents who you are, and what your relationship is about, and she will love it.
Select a location with some real meaning to your relationship. Depending on who you are, who she is, and who you are together, this could be anywhere from a baseball stadium or romantic restaurant to a mountaintop at the end of a hike or a canoe. You could choose to recreate your first date, or go somewhere you have both dreamed about together. Pick a memorable location, something that will have meaning for you and her for years to come.
Skip reading the prepared speech. We understand how nervous you will be, but if you can at all avoid it, don’t read from cue cards. It is a great idea to speak from your heart, and that could mean memorizing your words, depending on how naturally expressive you are. But leave the index cards at home. Your wife will want to remember looking in your eyes, not seeing your forehead.
Consider including family and friends, or a photographer. Both of these ideas could be terrible, depending on how private you both are, but including friends and family can be a wonderful way to extend a cherished memory into the future. This way, those closest to both of you can share in the joy of this very special occasion. Along the same lines, a recent trend is to hire a photographer to capture the exact moment of the proposal, and create a keepsake that will last for years to come.
End on a high note. End the evening with a ride in a limousine or horse-drawn carriage through the park, or maybe even an exotic sports car. Do something unique to cap this wonderful moment, and to begin creating new memories as an engaged couple from the very beginning.
