Unconventional and Unique Ways to Propose

You’ve bought the ring and you’re ready to pop the question – congratulations! There is rarely anything more exciting than realizing you’ve found the one you want to spend the rest of your life with and deciding you want to declare that for all the world to see.

Perhaps you’re not the most traditional type, or maybe your soon to be fiancé is a bit of a quirky one – either way, you’re looking for something a bit more creative than the get-down-on-one-knee proposal (though there’s certainly nothing wrong with a more traditional approach).

Today, we’ve put together a number of unique and creative ways you can pop that forever question, and it will be sure to be remembered, forever.

Select a Unique Ring

If your honey is a unique individual, they may appreciate a unique ring. Diamonds are typically the standard when it comes to engagement rings, so perhaps select a different type of stone, or a colored diamond. Slip the ring amongst their other jewelry, ask them to take a look at one of their pieces, and watch the joyous confusion spread over their face as they see the unfamiliar ring. Ask them simply, ‘will you marry me’, and have a moment to remember forever.

Switch Roles

It’s the 21st century, so why not get with the times! For a truly unconventional proposal, ladies, pop the question to your significant other. You can purchase a less expensive ring than a wedding band to serve as the engagement ring, and ask them while they’re not expecting it, like during their favorite movie or while they’re preparing breakfast.

‘Nesting’ Boxes

If you like the idea of proposing during a holiday where you give gifts, try to make it less obvious with a nesting box approach. Place the small ring box inside a slightly larger box, and that box into a slightly larger one, and so on and so forth until you’ve got a ‘present’ that looks nothing like a ring box. Watch them as they open box after box, and be ready with your proposal when they reach the final one.

Purchase a Movie Advertisement

A number of local theatres offer ads before movies for purchase. Purchase one of the ads, and create your own on screen proposal. It can be a short movie shot with friends and family, or a simple text on screen approach. Just make sure your soon-to-be-fiancé is watching the previews, and isn’t in the bathroom or getting snacks.

Have Helpers Handy

No matter how you decide to propose, being able to record the event for future watching and reminiscing is a nice touch. If you can, have friends and family (or even a professional crew) hidden to record the events for you. If you’re having a more private and personal engagement, set up a hidden camera to record for you – just be sure to have your proposal in the camera’s view. It will truly be something you and your spouse can look at for years to come.
