While the jewelry business offers no real grading for pearls, you can rest assured that IMG makes it a priority that it offers only pearls and pearl jewelry designs that live up to our own discriminating expectations.
Pearl Colors and Luster
Most pearls range in color from white to cream, but there are also shades of yellow, pink, silver, or black available. The luster of the pearl is the glossy-shine effect that is seen when light reflects off the pearl's surface.
Larger pearls will also exhibit more luster, and therefore are more desirable. The size of the pearl greatly depends on the type of pearl. Freshwater pearls are generally the smallest and other types (such as the South Sea pearl) can be much larger in diameter.
Pearl Care and Concerns
Although people tend to think of pearls as delicate and fragile, when cared for, they can past a lifetime and even longer. Many pearls, having been cared for properly, have become treasured keepsakes from generations past.
The good news for pearl lovers is that wearing your pearls actually improves the pearl's life expectancy. It is important, however to avoid spraying them or exposing them to perfumes, makeup, and hairsprays, and other common chemicals. To clean them, simply wipe them with a soft cloth and store them separate from other jewelry to avoid scratching.
